We Opened 6 Credit Cards in 2023
Combined, my husband and I have opened 6 cards this year.
To some people that may seem like a huge number. But if you are active with award travel, you’ll know that many people have opened 10 – 15 cards annually.
Which Cards We’ve Opened & Why
#1: January – Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
Why:
- Significant sign up bonus and NO annual fee
- It’s a business card so it doesn’t count against my 5/24.
- We transferred these points to Hyatt for great redemption, $0 stays!
- This is a great “for everything else” card because it earns 1.5x points on every purchase.

**Don’t think you are eligible for business cards? You probably are. I received this card as a sole proprietor that sells a few thousand dollars on Facebook marketplace annually. Here’s the details.
#2. March – Chase Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
Why:
- Again, big sign up bonus, NO annual fee
- We transferred these points to Hyatt for $0 Hyatt stays.
- You can earn a TON of points with this card because you get 5x points on phone, internet, cable AND office supply stores (on the 1st combined $25K annually).
- Again, a business card so it doesn’t count against my 5/24.

#3. April – Capital One® Venture X Rewards Credit Card
Why:
- Lounge access! In my opinion, there isn’t a better travel card on the market. Unlimited access for you + 2 guests to Capital One lounges and Priority Pass lounges.
- 2x miles per dollar on EVERY purchase. Another fantastic card for those “everything else” purchases.
- We specifically got this card because of its transfer partners. We transferred these miles for a KLM flight to Europe in business class for June 2024.
- 75K points sign up bonus in a program which has fantastic transfer partners

**One thing I loved when I applied for this card is it told me if I’d be accepted before I submitted the application!
#4. May – The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
Why:
- At the time, this card had a HUGE sign up bonus – 200K points sign up bonus! (which is no longer available). This was absolutely one of the “unplanned” “shiny object” card sign ups for us. The bonus was TOO good to pass up.
- I was able to transfer these points to British Airways for International business class flights we booked for June 2024.
#5. August – Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card
Why:
- A great sign up bonus with low annual fee.
- We have an international trip for December 2024 I’d like to use these miles for those flights.
- 75K points sign up bonus in a program which has fantastic transfer partners

#6. October – Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
Why:
- YEP! I opened the SAME card again! I simply opened it under a different business entity.
- Elevated sign up bonus at the time
- I opened it again for the elevated sign up bonus, $0 annual fee & because it earns 1.5x on every purchase.
We earned 620K points/miles from JUST these 6 card sign ups (many offers have changed since we signed up).
That is a HUGE number of points/miles that will be turned into incredible, nearly free travel! And that 620K number doesn’t even include the points we made referring each other or the points we earned JUST meeting the minimum spends!
**NOTE: To be able to transfer points from the 2 Ink cards mentioned above, you must hold one of the cards that makes transferring Chase points possible: Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card OR Chase Sapphire Reserve® OR Sapphire Reserve for Business℠
