Building Your Chase Card Portfolio
START WITH A CARD THAT ALLOWS YOU TO TRANSFER POINTS
THIS is really important to know. There are ONLY four Chase cards that give you the power to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards® Points to transfer partners:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® (personal card, $795 annual fee, lux card with great travel credits)
- Chase Sapphire Preferred ® (personal card $95 annual fee, great every day card)
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (business card $95 annual fee, great sign up bonus)
- Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ (business card, $795 annual fee)
BUILDING YOUR CHASE CARD PORTFOLIO
CARD 1:
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Earn 75,000 points
Earn 75,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Learn how to apply »Of the 3 cards that allow you to transfer Chase points, my favorite is the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
Why?
- I personally want cards that have good sign up bonuses AND are great for every day spend. This one has 3x for online grocery (I order online & pick up – only good at stores that code as grocery), 3x on restaurants & 3x on streaming services
- Primary car rental insurance
- No foreign transaction fee (we always use this card for dining on vacations for 3x points so this is really important)
Now that you have a card that allows you to transfer Chase points, you’ll be able to earn points on OTHER Chase cards and COMBINE all the points into the account that has the transfer ability.
Easy explanation:
Let’s say you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred. And we know this card can transfer Chase points.
You earn points on the Chase cards below and “COMBINE” those INTO your Chase Sapphire Preferred account. And boom, once combined, now ALL the Chase points are transferable.

CARD 2:
Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
$750 (75,000 Chase points)
Earn $750 (75,000 Chase points) when you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first three months after account opening
Learn how to apply »From there, my next favorite card in the Chase line up is the Chase Ink Business Cash® Credit Card. We make a large percentage of our Chase points from this card every year due to its generous 5x categories.
- 5x on office supply stores and on phone & internet & cable (combined up to $25K annually)
- $0 annual fee – this is pretty unheard of on a card that can earn SO MANY POINTS!
- Generous sign up bonus
CARD 3:
Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
$750 bonus cash back (75,000 Chase Points)
Earn $750 bonus cash back (75,000 Chase Points) after you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Learn how to apply »But don’t forget the other $0 annual Ink card… Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card. This one is ALWAYS in my wallet because it earns 1.5x points on EVERY purchase. That makes it perfect for my “everything else” purchases where I usually couldn’t earn more than 1x point/dollar.
**If you are fretting that TWO of these suggested cards are business cards, but you don’t have a business, remember the side hustles count as businesses too! Selling on Facebook Marketplace or Nextdoor, petsitting/dog walking, coaching lessons, Poshmark… there are so many side hustles you may not even realize you have one. Check out my guide on applying for a business card with your side hustle.
Card 4:
Chase Freedom Unlimited®
$200 Cash Back (20K Chase Points)
Earn a $200 Bonus (20K Chase points) after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening
Learn how to apply »Earns 3x at drug stores & 3x on dining. Plus 1.5x on all other purchases, unlimited.
These 4 cards create a Chase powerhouse and the ability to earn lots of points, BEYOND the sign up bonuses!
WHY THE OBSESSION WITH CHASE POINTS?
Quite simply, in my opinion, they are the most versatile point system out there.
They transfer to Hyatt which makes them incredibly powerful because you can often stay at incredible Hyatt properties for less than 20K Hyatt points per night.
They also transfer to United and Southwest, which no other point system does.
So now you know WHICH cards to get for earning significant amounts of Chase points.
But knowing how to TRANSFER these points is key. Because that is where the best value almost always is.
And I’ve got you covered with this step by step guide on how to transfer Chase points.
