What are 60K Credit Card Points Worth?
Thinking that 60,000 credit card points only translates to $600 is a common misconception.
I think when you first start using points/miles there are a few paths that the credit card company makes the easiest: Cashing out your points, buying gift cards with your points, and using their in house travel portal to book travel with your points.
99% of the time, those 3 methods above will NOT get you the best value for your points. You’ve worked hard to earn those points, so let’s explore how you can make them translate into more travel.
THESE EXAMPLES ONLY APPLY TO TRANSFERABLE POINTS
One big mistake I see is that people are only earning miles or points with one specific airline or hotel. This is the 1st thing I advise against doing. If you are only earning Southwest points, you can only book Southwest flights. But if you are earning flexible/transferable points, you have way more options.
What are transferable/flexible credit card points? They are points earned on your credit card that can be transferred to one of your credit cards transfer partners.
We are going to use Chase Ultimate Reward points in this example because they are my favorite type of transferable point.
CARDS THAT EARN TRANSFERABLE CHASE ULTIMATE REWARD POINTS:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® (personal card)
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (personal card)
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (business card)
- Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ (business card)

VALUE OF 60K CHASE CREDIT CARD POINTS
My favorite card to start your points/miles journey with is the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

Let’s take a look at how you could use these points…
OPTION 1: CASH BACK, $600 value
You could convert these points to cash. Easy peasy.
Login to your Chase account. Find your points. Click “Redeem”…

If you want straight cash back, you can choose (from the top navigation bar) “Convert to cash” then, “Cash back”

From there, you can see that your 60K points COULD be cashed out for $600.00.

OPTION 2: GIFT CARDS, nearly $675 value
You’ll follow the same steps as above, but this time, on the top navigation bar, you’ll choose “Shopping & Experiences” and then “Redeem for gift cards”…

As you can see, with your 60,000 credit card points, you can get almost 27 of these gift cards, which gets you nearly $675 in this specific gift card.

OPTION 3: transfer to transfer partner, $1,500+ value
Again, you’ll follow the same initial steps, but on the top navigation bar, select “Travel”, then “Transfer points to partners”

For this example, we are going to say we’ve transferred all 60K points to Chase’s transfer partner, Hyatt. If you aren’t sure exactly how to do this, I’ve got a step by step for you here.
So NOW these are Hyatt points. So you would go directly onto the Hyatt website to book this…

This example is for 2 nights at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.
This hotel is a Hyatt category 7, and nightly award rates vary from 25K – to 30K.
In this example, we are looking at 2 nights, each 30K points per night.
With points, it will cost 60K points + $0. Without points, the out-of-pocket cost is $1590 for 2 nights.

SO HOW MUCH ARE 60K CREDIT CARD POINTS WORTH?
That’s up to you. But at least now you know there are more options than just buying gift cards or just cashing them out.
