My #1 Travel Points Card: Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Is that a bold statement? Maybe.
But this card earns BIG in all my highest spend areas – it’s my #1 earner card!
Why Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is My Favorite Card:
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
100K Chase Points
Earn 100,000 Chase points after spending $5K on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Powerhouse Earner
- 3x points on gas and EV charging
- 3x points on online groceries (excluding Target®, Walmart® and wholesale clubs)
- 3x points on vacation rentals like Airbnb and Vrbo
- 3x points on dining
- 3x points on select streaming services
- 5x points on travel booked through Chase Travel℠
- 2x points on all other travel purchases
Earning Transferable/Flexible Points is Key
The ability to transfer these points is where you (9x out of 10) get the amazing redemptions.

*Beginning 6/15/26, new Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardholders will transfer to Hyatt at 4:3 ratio
This will go into effect for ALL Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardholders 10/1/26
BUT there’s an important workaround—this doesn’t have to be a dealbreaker for many households.
If someone in your household has either:
• Chase Sapphire Reserve®
• Sapphire Reserve for Business℠
You can combine points from Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card onto that account and still transfer to Hyatt at the full 1:1 rate.

What are Chase Points Worth?
You’ll hear most people say they want to get at least 2 cents per point for Chase points because they are so valuable. Here’s an example of how to figure that out…
Flight Example: Flying Air France from Denver to Paris, 1 way in economy

To figure out the cents per point for this specific example…
$1420 – $98 =$1,322.00
$1322/25,000 =$0.05
So for this specific example, you are getting 5 cents per point for this redemption. Great deal!
Hotel Example: Hyatt Regency Maui

When you transfer Chase points to Hyatt, you can often get HUGE value
Cash Price: $785

My Take
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is always in my wallet. Earning Chase points is incredibly important to me, because I value these points more than any other points because they can transfer to so many unique partners for huge value.
This is my #1 most recommended card. And it’s also the easiest to start with.
