Chase 5/24 Rule Explained

One reason a lot of people recommend starting with Chase cards is because of  Chase’s 5/24 Rule

WHAT’S THE 5/24 RULE

If you have opened 5 or more personal credit cards (from ANY issuer) in the last 24 months, Chase will almost certainly not approve you for another personal OR  business card.

KNOWING YOUR 5/24 COUNT

All personal credit cards (from ANY bank) will count towards your 5/24, even being an authorized user counts. Business cards {usually} don’t count.

Some business cards DO count against your 5/24
Discover Cards
Store cards that are part of the national payment system
Some Capital One Business Cards – Specifically Capital One Spark Cash, Capital One Spark Cash Select, Capital One Spark Miles, Capital One Spark Miles Select
*Capital One Spark Cash Plus and Capital One Venture X Business DO NOT count against 5/24)

MY PERSONAL 5/24 STRATEGY

Once I am at 4/24, I will only open business cards until I’m at 3/24. Staying at 4/24 & under gives me the option to continue opening up Chase business cards.

BUSINESS CARDS ARE GENERALLY THE SOLUTION

I personally have opened 4 business cards this year and 1 personal card
This is how I stay well below 5/24
