Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay Review 2023

OUR STAY & HOW WE BOOKED IT

My family of 3 (2 adults and one 12 year old) stayed at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay in October 2023 for 3 nights.
This is a Hyatt category 4 hotel – which means the off peak nights = 12K points/night, the standard nights = 15K points/night and the peak nights = 18K points/night.
At the time of our stay, the rates were 15K points/night.

As someone with a nice stash of Chase Ultimate Rewards points that I “could” transfer to Hyatt to make this stay free, I still paid cash (with my The World of Hyatt Credit Card of course – to earn LOTS of points). Why?

  1. Standard rooms are pretty small (about 280 square feet) and hold 2 adults + 1 child
  2. We opted for the 3 twin bed room with a sleeper sofa – which was almost 400 square feet
  3. This much larger room only cost $150 (all in) nightly
  4. If I used points for the standard room, I’d get LESS and a ONE cent value from my points – and to me, these points are worth much more than that (to be used better at later stays)

HYATT GLOBALIST PERKS

If you are a Globalist, THIS hotel can save you lots of money.

This Hyatt still has a Club Lounge (hallelujah! – many closed & never reopened after covid – annoying!).
And the lounge was a BIG perk of the stay….

  • The lounge is located right off the lobby and accessible with your room key. It is quite large and has plenty of seating. When you walk in, immediately to the right is the self service beverage station (wine, champagne, liquor, beer, sodas, waters, juices).
  • If you visit the lounge from 5 – 7pm you will find a few options for food & several for desserts. Many times at lounges you can make a dinner from the selections in the club. And that is true here too. But to be honest, we didn’t love the food. It was mediocre at best.
  • BUT the lounge is attached to the hotel restaurant and the lounge has a (very) small menu of items you can order from the lounge staff from the restaurant. Over the 3 nights were were there we tried most things on the menu. Again, not amazing. My recommendation – the truffle fries – they were fantastic & pair perfectly with (the free) champagne. 🙂
  • In the morning, for Globalist breakfast, you enter the lounge, grab a seat and then go into the restaurant to grab your breakfast items. Breakfast is VERY good & VERY extensive – many eastern & western items to choose from. And a fantastic salad bar! (wish they had this in the lounge at dinner!!)

We arrived after 5pm to the hotel our 1st night, so there was no need for early check in and we left early on our last day, so no need for late check out – so I can’t say if those would have been options.

ACCESS TO DISNEYLAND TOKYO & DISNEY SEA

We spent our first 3 nights in Tokyo at the Andaz Tokyo (obsessed, amazing hotel).
At the end of our 3rd day in Tokyo, we took an Uber Black to Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay (about 30 minutes, $65). We chose Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay because it is the closest Hyatt to Disneyland Tokyo & Disney Sea – but it is by no means super close to these parks (about 15 – 20 minute drive). There are much closer Marriott & Hilton options – but as a Hyatt Globalist, I would 1000% recommend Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay even with the longer drive.

The hotel offers a shuttle to both parks. However, we chose to Uber or Taxi there & back ($15 – $20 each way).
We only did 1 full day at Disneyland Tokyo & 1 full day at Disney Sea.

**A note about Taxis & Ubers in Tokyo –
Taxis can be really hit or miss. As in, the cars can be very old. And they can have hints of cigarette smoke 🙁
The Uber Blacks are amazing. Every time we ordered one, a brand new mini van (yes, these Ubers made me a mini van fan!!) with self controlled air (I’m always hot!) and with a driver in a suit. And usually, the price was the same or only slightly more than a taxi!

**A note about arriving to the parks early –
The hotel does have an early shuttle, so this isn’t an issue.
However, the hotel will also arrange the taxi for you for a specific time and it will be waiting for you promptly at said time.

ROOMS & SHOWER

With our 3 person room, we found plenty of space. No issues there. It’s really a very typical Hyatt Regency. Nice but not amazing. The shower & tub are in their own room. And the toilet is in its own room (LOVE THIS!).

There are robes in the room (love this) and there were little kid slippers (which were too small for my tween, but such a cute touch).

I also appreciated there is plenty of storage in the room.

WHO IS THIS HOTEL A GOOD FIT FOR?

Do you need to take a Disney mid day break (at the hotel): probably not a good fit, too far
Are you planning to stay here for your entire Tokyo trip: it’s pretty far from city center
Do you need Disney magic: stay onsite instead
Are you Hyatt Globalist visiting Disney Parks: 100% stay here

Staff interactions 10/10
Rooms 8/10
Cleanliness 10/10
Location 5/10 to Disney, 1/10 to Tokyo – but Globalist perks make up for this and the room rates!
