Fly to Hawaii for Less Points
Flights to Hawaii can be crazy expensive and it is probably the reason most families think they can’t afford to fly to Hawaii.
We know using points to fly anywhere makes your vacation cheaper.
BUT… I have a few options to show you where you can use LESS points to get your family to Hawaii!
BOOK ON TURKISH AIRLINES, FLY ON UNITED
I will show you how to book the SAME United flight on Turkish Airlines for less.
Booked on United: 25,000 miles one way
Booked on Turkish Airlines: 10,00 miles one way
**Spoiler alert for anyone who doesn’t want to read the post: You transfer Capital One miles to Turkish Airlines. You CAN NOT book a flight on the Turkish Airlines site with United miles!
Let me show you exactly how to find available award seat options:

Go to United’s website. Select one way, Book with miles, Flexible dates. Do NOT login.

Because you chose flexible dates… you’ll see a calendar like this. Look for the lowest award option. Then click on that.

IF the flight says “Saver Award” we’ve found what we are looking for. Remember, don’t login or it will skew the results.
We’ve found a “Saver Award” – so now we are going to go to Turkish Airlines and see if we can pull up that United Airlines award seat to book ON Turkish Airlines. You will have to sign in to Turkish Airlines to do this search.

On the home page of Turkish Airlines, you select “Award ticket – Buy a ticket with Miles”
From here you will need to login.
When you get to this screen, select “Star Award Ticket”
Select “One way”
Enter to from/fo
Enter the date from the saver award ticket you found on United
Keep passenger as 1
Click “Search Flights”

As you can see, the saver award flight you found on United (for 25K miles) is showing here on Turkish for 10,000 miles

**To book more than 1 person, you will need to CALL Turkish to complete this booking.
**The website does not show how many seats are available, so you’ll need to call Turkish for that to.
I DON’T HAVE TURKISH AIRLINE MILES, HOW CAN I BOOK THIS?
You can transfer points from: Bilt, Citi, Marriott and my personal favorite… Capital One.
My favorite way to earn Capital One miles is through their Venture cards…
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
$250 travel credit & 75K bonus miles
LIMITED-TIME OFFER: Enjoy $250 to use on Capital One Travel in your first cardholder year, plus earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening – that’s equal to $1,000 in travel
If you are looking for a Capital One card with more travel perks (lounge access) and travel protections, I recommend this one…
Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
75,000 miles
BOTH of these cards earn at least 2x miles per dollar on every purchase
BOOK ON BRITISH AIRWAYS, FLY ON AMERICAN AIRLINES
I will show you how to book the SAME American Airlines flight on British Airways for less.
Booked on American Airlines: 22,500 miles one way
Booked on British Airways: 16,000 avios one way
There’s 2 reasons this is very important
- There are many times the exact same flight is actually less points/miles through British Airways
- It is WAY easier to book British Airways flights because you can transfer points from Chase, Capital One, American Express, Bilt and Marriott.
How to search for award flights on American Airlines:

When you search on American Airlines, you do not need to login.
Simply put your to/from dates and select 1 passenger, search ONE way.
When the search results come up (like above image), select “Calendar”

Now you have a calendar view to find the cheapest options for your flight.
You see the cheapest dates are 22,500 miles one way.
Now head over to British Airways site.

On the homepage, hover over the word “Book” on top nav bar…. then you’ll see this:

Select “Book a flight with Avios”
You’ll need to login
Enter to to/from/dates/one way/one person

This screen shows you that exact same flight that’s avialable on American Airlines is available to book here. Click on the box that says “7 left” to see pricing…

Here you can see, the SAME American Airlines flight is offered on British Airways for 16,000 Avios + $5.60.
Booking THIS flight on American Airlines costs 22,500 miles + $5.60
THE IMPORTANCE OF FLEXIBLE/TRANSFERABLE POINTS
In both options, you have the option to transfer Capital One miles to the cheaper airline to book these points. In the British Airways example, you have LOTS of options of points to transfer.
If you want to earn a ton of flexible points & miles, be sure to follow my roadmap to 1 million points.
FAQ
- DO THESE AIRLINES OFFER TO HOLD THE FLIGHTS WHILE I TRANSFER MY POINTS?

Do a google flights search for your desired route. See what airlines fly there. Then do award searches at those airlines and their partner airlines. - WHY DO YOU ONLY BOOK ONE WAY FOR AWARD FLIGHTS?
It gives me the best chances to find the best options to & from my destination. - I SEE A GREAT AWARD FLIGHT, CAN I BOOK IN NEXT WEEK?
If you see something that works for you I would grab it immediately – there’s no guarantee someone else won’t book it.
