Andaz Maui Review – Points Stay
My family visited Maui over spring break (March 2024).
We stayed 3 nights at Hyatt Regency Maui, 1 night at Marriott Wailea Beach Resort & 4 nights at Andaz Maui. We used points and certificates for all 8 nights. Saving over $13K. Here’s my review of the Andaz Maui as a Hyatt Globalist staying on points….
BOOKING ANDAZ MAUI WITH POINTS
Andaz Maui is a Hyatt category 8 which means the standard room night is 40K Hyatt points, off peak is 35K Hyatt points and peak nights are 45K Hyatt points/night.
Being that it was spring break, all 4 nights we stayed were 45K points each (180K Hyatt points for 4 nights). That is A LOT of points. But the room rates while we were there were $1000+ night. We were happy to use points for our $0 4 night stay!
We of course did not earn these points by paid stays at a Hyatt or by putting a ton of spend on our The World of Hyatt Credit Card. I find earning Chase Ultimate Reward points on every day spend is the easiest route. Then we transfer those Chase points to Hyatt. Just the 4 nights alone would have cost $5260. But since we are Hyatt Globalist, we got even more savings from our stay…

GLOBALIST BENEFITS AT ANDAZ MAUI
- Breakfast daily in their restaurant Ka’ana Kitchen (buffet price is $60/person with tip)
- Free valet parking on award stays ($50 waived, daily!)
- Waived daily resort fee ($50 waived, daily!)
- Late check out, upgrades when available
I personally would not pay $181 for breakfast for our family of 3. But I have to say… the buffet is incredible at this property. One of the best I’ve ever seen. You order eggs from your server and then the rest is buffet style. There are changes to breakfast daily, but staples remain. And everything is absolutely delicious. But note – specialty coffees are not included with your Globalist breakfast benefits.

Usually I find resort fees super annoying. Usually it feels like a money grab because nothing much is included. But the fees covered a ton of stuff at Andaz Maui… here are the ones we used/liked:
- Outrigger Excursion
- Guided Kayak Tours
- Stand up paddleboard (SUP) lessons
- Snorkel equipment use
- Non-alcoholic welcome beverage – this was some kind of lavender lemon aide and it was amazing!
- (2) Bottled water-refillable
- Custom Andaz bag upon arrival – this bag is super light weight and perfect to throw your sunblock in for the pool!
- Lei greeting – I received a beautiful white lei and my husband and son got Kukui necklaces which they loved
- Beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels
- Fitness Classes (2x daily) – my son & husband took the yoga class on the lawn & enjoyed it
We did a different activity each morning… Outrigger, Kayak, Stand up Paddleboard as well as snorkeling and boogie boarding (boards provided by hotel). There were sea turtles swimming next to us on the outrigger and the snorkeling was great with tons of different fish, coral and more sea turtles.

They also gave us a certificate to pick out a treat from their cafe/shop. The choices were chocolate covered nuts of champagne. Of course I would always choose champagne – but especially with my name on it 😉

ANDAZ MAUI LOCATION
The Andaz Maui is located in Wailea. It is direct ocean front with a fantastic paved path that takes you past the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort, Grand Wailea (Hilton) and Four Seasons. It’s also about a 10 minute walk from the Island Market – which is a family favorite for hats, t-shirts, and fantastic food (don’t miss the salt & vinegar wings and the ube pancakes!).
For this portion of the trip, we really only left the hotel for dinner. We spend our mornings doing the water excursions and afternoons at the pool. There’s a Wailea Monkeypod location about a 10 minute drive (maybe 5, it’s super close) and this Monkeypod DOES take reservations. We loved having dinner there one night.
Wailea, to me, feels more upscale and secluded than Ka’anapali.

HONEYMOONERS AND FAMILIES
At first, this resort feels more suited for couples. But there were tons of families as well. This resort has 4 main pools. They are tiered. The very bottom one has a zero entry and lots of lawn space nearby for playing. This seemed to be where families with younger kids camped out. Then it had 3 infinity edge pools. These were lovely and never too busy. The biggest disappointment is the adult pool – it doesn’t have a view and it’s pretty plain.

REVIEW OF ROOM – STANDARD ROOM, OCEAN VIEW
We booked a standard room and were upgraded to an ocean view. I didn’t love the location of our room. Most standard rooms seem to be in building 5. It overlooks the pools. Ours did as well but it was way too near to the pool bar which they had live music at some nights and was pretty loud. We just felt like our balcony wasn’t private at all and the chairs out there were not comfortable.
BUT… we LOVED the room! I’d read they were small. But I felt like we had plenty of space. And I loved the bathroom too. Plus the mini fridge is stocked with juices (no charge) which is so nice. And actual creamer – THANK YOU!! (hate those powder packets!)

WOULD WE STAY HERE AGAIN?
In a heartbeat. Yes, it’s a lot of points. But it’s a truly luxurious experience for the most part. From the gorgeous open air lobby that has incredible views of the pools ocean, to the amazing staff – one of the best check ins I’ve ever encountered, our breakfast server was phenomenal, and wow those beds were comfortable.

EARNING HYATT POINTS FOR FREE STAYS
While at the Andaz, I overheard a family saying how they stayed on points from their The World of Hyatt Credit Card.
Do I love my World of Hyatt card? YES. Do I put daily spend on that card? NO.
The key to earning more Hyatt stays is to rack up Chase points and transfer them to Hyatt. Earn more than 1x point per dollar on every purchase so you can get MORE free stays!
