Which Venture Card is Best? Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card vs Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

Truthfully, both of these cards I’m going to compare are great. But which is best for you?

Benefits you’ll find on BOTH cards

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
and
Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
have a lot of things in common…

  • They both earn at least 2x on EVERY purchase, unlimited
  • They have the same transfer partners that you can transfer your Capital One miles to for big value
  • You have the same options with your miles, including: Cover Travel Purchases, Convert Rewards/Transfer miles (to partners), Book a Trip in the travel portal and more
  • You can combine/transfer your Capital One miles with anyone!

Does having both cards make sense?

Signing up for a card with a significant welcome offer (like these cards do) always makes sense for the 1st year, as the welcome offer outweighs the annual fee.

But after holding the cards for a year, I would pare down to 1 card – whichever is the best fit for you.

ELIGIBILITY & REFERRAL MUST KNOWS

Q: Can I get referral points if I refer someone for this card?
A: To be eligible for referral bonus, the person you refer can’t be the primary cardholder on any Capital One credit card.

Q: Who is eligible for these cards?
A: Moving up is the best strategy for welcome offer eligibility:
VentureOne → Venture → Venture X

➡️ Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
Not eligible for new welcome offer if you’ve earned a Venture X bonus in the past 48 months

➡️ Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
Not eligible for new welcome offer if you’ve earned a Venture X or Venture bonus in the past 48 months

➡️ Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card
Not eligible for new welcome offer if you’ve earned a Venture X, Venture, or VentureOne bonus in the past 48 months

You also need to space Capital One personal credit card applications by minimum 6 months apart.

Which card wins?

If you plan to get both, I’d start with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. Then you’d only need to wait 6 months to be eligible for the welcome offer on the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.

If you only plan to get 1, I’d make the decision based on if you already have other luxury cards that provide lounge access and travel insurances.
